iBeacons is a technology created by Apple. It’s a device that emits low energy bluetooth signal and once a smartphone or tablet gets close enough, it gives instructions to that device to perform a specific action, such as enabling a pop-up push notification. This can be particularly useful within a shop, or a museum, to give customers information as they enter, or perhaps get close to a specific exhibit.

It’s not a new technology, being a few years old now, but it’s still gaining momentum and we’ll likely see more app makers eploring the use of this feature in the future.
