Who wrote this?

My name’s Steve Lamattina, and I started from the same place as you, without much knowledge of app building. I simply knew which apps I liked and which ones were annoying. Obviously I had a few other skills in my pocket, such as a background in writing and media, yet I began my app-making journey from square one.

I spent the last year testing app makers and writing reviews, as well as teaching myself the ins and outs of marketing your apps and making them as user-friendly as possible. I also built an app with Barcelona-museum.com, giving me insight into the post-publishing side of things. Hopefully by doing the hard work I’ve been able to make it a bit easier, and more enjoyable, for you!

Why are you giving this ebook
away for free?

That’s a valid question. Twenty-eight pages don’t write themselves, so there’s clearly quite a bit of work that has gone into this. Two key reasons: We don’t want to charge beginners who are in the very early stages of finding their way. And we know that people love free things, so we’re hoping this will help raise our profile.

So please enjoy this free gift!

  • Louise Fuller

Hello, this is a really well written book and gave me just the information I needed, plus the confidence that I can do it. Thank you very much.

    • Steve

Thanks Louise! Great to hear 🙂

  • An Edwards

Thank you. Very much info and Helpful, and learned a new acronym ASO..
What I missed: plugins to convert WordPress Site to app. Quality?

    • Steve

Hi An, glad you liked it! Unfortunately I haven’t tried any plugins like those, as they’d have to work specifically with each app maker’s platform. But there are some app makers that offer this service from their sign up page, allowing you to bring content over from your site. Also some have a feature that allows you to pull web pages across and into the app.
In regards to the quality comment, could you please expand a little? Not sure what it’s referring to.

Props from Tara…This book is a revelation. I really got nothing out of any other online resource (even from the actual product tutorials put together by their creators). Unfortunately, the people that create prototyping tools assume everyone using them is a programmer, developer, or some other type of experienced ‘tech type.’ I really had no idea there was a clear program to assist in flow charts..this was gold to me. This can be very disconcerting for those of us looking for more ‘basic user friendly’ manual/info. This is by far the best and Mr Lamattina has created the best guide out there!

    • Steve

Thanks Tara! Really glad you found it helpful 🙂

  • Deborah

Very helpful book, thank you. Which app builder did you use to create the Barcelona Museums app?

    • Steve

Thanks Deborah! We used GoodBarber for Barcelona Museums 🙂

  • lcenter

I enjoyed the comparison of the various app makers. In fact it was hugely helpful and I forwarded the link on to someone else whom I know is looking for an app. Also the book contained lots of good info. I particularly like the wireframe idea. Many thanks for providing this useful information.

    • Steve

Thanks, I’m glad you found it helpful 🙂

  • Arthur Gabi

Hi Steve.. Great work on this ebook. I have recommended this book to friends who may be interested in creating their own apps like myself 🙂 . Just one question, is there any app maker out there that has a ready made template for creating tipping competition apps??

    Cheers 🙂

    • Steve

Hi Arthur, thanks for the recommendations! Sorry though, there are no app makers I’m aware of (that I’ve reviewed) that offer such a template.
